New Digital Product Passport Pilot Aims to Give Denim Suppliers a Competitive Edge…
A new pilot demonstrates how embedding digital product passport (DPP) data at the fabric level can remove supply chain data bottleneck and give suppliers a competitive advantage in the market.
Last week, Denim Deal , World Collective and Green Story announced the launch of their DDP pilot, now live with three denim fabrics by Indian textile mill and denim manufacturer Bhaskar Savitt Industries. The pilot addresses what industry observers are understanding as an “intermediary DPP” or product passport data embedded at the component or material level, rather than waiting just for finished products.

By embedding DPP data at the fabric level, the partners say suppliers can structure their information once and make it accessible to every brand they work with, eliminating the repetitive, inefficient practice of sharing the same data individually with each customer.
“DPPs will only scale if we stop treating every finished product as a new data-collection exercise. The real opportunity is to create reusable data building blocks across the supply chain,” said Akhil Sivanandan, Green Story CEO.
The pilot brings together Denim Deal ’s network of partners. In February, the global initiative designed to scale the use of post-consumer recycled in denim announced a strategic partnership with Green Story, an AI-powered platform that provides companies with a semi-autonomous solution to handle product impact measurement, supplier engagement and regulatory readiness. A key focus of their partnership is the role of DDPs and how they can increase consumer engagement and support credible storytelling and value chain transparency .
Building on this momentum, Denim Deal entered a partnership with World Collective , a global sourcing platform, in May. Together, they are focused on expanding the visibility, accessibility and global reach of suppliers and materials that meet Denim Deal’s circularity standards.
Bhaskar Savitt Industries is also a Denim Deal member.
The pilot covers three fabrics by Bhaskar Savitt Industries that currently live on World Collective’s platform. Each product features an interactive DPP widget on the product page, providing transparent access to detailed fabric composition, sustainability metrics and supplier information. It also includes care instructions and performance test results.
The fabrics include Renewed-Eco, a 79 percent organic cotton, 20 percent post-consumer recycled cotton and 1 percent elastane twill; Earthbound-Eco, an 80 percent organic cotton, 20 percent post-consumer recycled cotton denim in black; and the Bluecanopy-Eco, a “rugged yet refined” 40 percent organic cotton, 30 percent post-consumer recycled cotton and 30 percent lyocell denim.
The partners emphasize that the timing of this pilot presents a strategic opportunity. By adopting DPP standards now, they said responsible manufacturers can differentiate themselves in the market before regulation mandates it. “Suppliers with comprehensive DPP data can demonstrate their practices and capabilities directly to the market,” said Jeanine Ballone, co-founder and CEO of World Collective.
The organizations are already in discussions with additional textile producers to expand the pilot. The partnership is moving quickly to demonstrate the model’s scalability.
World Collective will host an activation at Texhibition Istanbul in September to engage Turkish denim suppliers and prepare them for DPP adoption. The activation will serve as both a proof-of-concept and a recruitment engine to bring Turkish manufacturers into the “regulatory readiness ecosystem” and position the region as an early adopter of digital supply chain technology.
“This is the beginning,” Ballone said. “Our goal is to make structured product data into the sourcing flow. When suppliers and brands operate with the same information infrastructure, friction disappears and trust increases. This pilot is another step toward a scalable sourcing ecosystem.”
