FSNYE Shoe Trade Show Cancels December Event Amid Rising New York City Hotel Prices
The organization is actively exploring plans for its next marketplace in June 2027.
Change is coming to New York ’s footwear market week in December.
On Wednesday, Footwear Show New York Expo (FSNYE) president and chief executive officer Phyllis Rein said she would not hold the previously planned edition at the Park Lane Hotel later this year.
Originally slated for Dec. 1 – Dec. 3, Rein told FN that she had to make the difficult decision to not hold the show due to “significant increases” in hotel rates across the city, which have been come “unsustainable” for the show. She cited that hotel rates for December market increased by 47 percent to as much as 55 percent over prior rates, making the event “financially unworkable” for many exhibitors, Rein noted.

“Rather than pass these costs on to the brands and companies that participate in FSNYE, we believe postponing the December marketplace is the most responsible decision,” Rein said. “Our priority has always been to create a marketplace where exhibitors receive a strong return on their investment and buyers can efficiently discover the collections they need.”

The trade show executive noted that this decision applies only to the December event and does not represent the end of FSNYE. The organization is actively exploring plans for its next marketplace, tentatively scheduled for June 8 – June 10, 2027. Venue and program details will be announced as plans are finalized.
“We are grateful for the tremendous support of our exhibitors, buyers, and industry community,” Rein added. “FSNYE was built on relationships, and those relationships remain at the center of everything we do. We look forward to continuing to serve the footwear industry and sharing future plans as they develop.”
Rein founded FSNYE in 2019 when she saw an opportunity to continue the hotel-show tradition during FFANY market week. “My goal was — and remains — to create an accessible, relationship-driven environment where footwear and handbag brands can meet directly with buyers, build connections and do business,” she explained.
Since she started the show, Rein said she’s only ever missed one other season in June 2021, which was due to COVID-related circumstances. Her first show was held at the Warwick New York Hotel. Following the COVID period, FSNYE moved to the remodeled Park Lane New York Hotel, where the event continued through the June 2026 market.
As for what’s next for the December market, Rein added that she has reached out personally to her existing clients and exhibitors to discuss the move.
“I wanted to answer questions, be transparent about the situation, and begin helping them identify practical options for the December market,” she said. “My focus is to help our community maintain opportunities to meet buyers, present their collections and conduct business in New York this December.”
Rein has also taken the step to arrange meeting-room space at Park Central New York for companies that need a place to show. She noted that All Black, Footwear Unlimited and Yellow Box have already committed to showing in the new space come December.
Marty Rose, agent and distributor for All Black, confirmed with FN that he will be at this new venue — the hotel’s Carnegie meeting room on the second floor — and showed his support for Rein. “I have been working with Phyllis Rein for over 20 years,” Rose noted. “Wherever she runs a show, I support her because her skill set is superior to anyone else, especially for NYC area shows.”
As for Stephanie Peña, head of U.S. sales for NeroGiardini, FSNYE has historically been an “important opportunity” for the brand to connect with major department store partners . However, the executive noted that the brand is now actively looking for a permanent showroom space in New York.
“This is a natural next step in our evolution, rather than a response to the show’s cancellation,” Peña told FN. “We already have showrooms in more than 30 international markets, as well as our NeroGiardini Palazzo and flagship store in Milan, so establishing a permanent New York presence is a logical progression as we continue to build the U.S. business.”
