The store has opened the Imagination Café at the centre of its London store, converting Dolly’s Café on the lower ground floor into a space built around an afternoon tea menu from food and drink agency Malik Acid and an immersive installation by artist Katie Stout. Launched July 20, Imagination Café runs for three months. “When we started Malik Acid, one of the very first experiences we added to our dream project list was afternoon tea,” said Cameron Malik-Flynn, cofounder of Malik Acid, in a statement. “It’s a dining experience with huge creative potential and while the ritual itself is timeless, the flavour profiles have remained largely unchanged,” she said. “Through the Malik Acid lens, we reimagined it with brighter, more contemporary flavours, creating unexpected moments of surprise across every tier whilst also taking inspiration from artist Katie Stout’s bold use of colour and exaggerated forms.” Tea, reworked Ms. Stout designed both the dreamscape backdrop to the café and a large-scale work in the atrium above, where inflatable horses, butterflies, snails and other creatures hang from the ceiling. The café centers Dream On, Selfridges’ summer program of installations, pop-ups, live appearances and events staged across its windows and shop floors. All three cocktails on the menu are built on Three Spirits elixirs, each intended to produce a different state of mind: a social peach and matcha champagne cocktail, a livener of tequila, cherry and Darjeeling tea, and a nightcap gin sour made with fig leaf, miso and sencha tea.
