While the Urban Outfitters-owned clothing-rental service has taken an omnichannel approach in the past, this year it is focusing on shareability.
Nuuly, the clothing-rental brand under Urban Outfitters Inc., is shifting gears for its fall 2026 campaign with a microdrama that explores the ups and downs of modern dating — and includes nods to the habits of regular users of the monthly subscription service with a fervent Gen Z following .
Past campaigns have leveraged a mix of channels, including connected TV and out-of-home advertising, to help Nuuly scale into a high-growth segment of Urban Outfitters’ business . “Heart on My Sleeve” focuses on building awareness and delivering entertainment squarely through social media, where the young women who make up Nuuly’s core customer base spend their free time. The 12-part series, which started rolling out Monday, isn’t centered exclusively on Nuuly, but rather has the company play a supporting part in a larger narrative populated by on-the-rise actors and content creators.
“Consumers are fatigued with brands selling hard at them. ... I think that the speed and the amplification of advertising now makes it really congested,” said Kirsten Henri, senior director of creative and content at Nuuly, of the strategy behind the effort.
“ Heart on My Sleeve ” stars Wally Baram, who made a splash on the Prime Video show “Overcompensating,” as an art teacher trying to find a date for an upcoming wedding. Nuuly supplies outfits from brands including Lioness, Collina Strada and Frankies Bikinis that Baram wears on dates that tend to go south in humorous ways. There are also Easter eggs referencing common practices among Nuuly users, like having a romantic partner drop the brand’s distinctive-looking bags off at the post office for return shipping.
Charles Hsu, Chine Ikoro, Tara Raani, Khial Watson, Jean-Luc and Quentin Nguyen-Duy also feature in the campaign, which was directed by Milky Tran and developed with independent agency Dayna’s House. The latter, which specializes in social marketing, paid close attention to online culture to ensure the dating insights felt relatable to viewers. This is the shop’s first work with Nuuly and it came together in just a few weeks, reflecting the speedy production cycle of microdramas.
